Ten Guitar Challenge

Mary Spender has posted a new guitar challenge up on her YouTube channel: record a song using 10 guitars or more.

There’s a long and glorious tradition of YouTube musicians setting musical challenges for each other, most recently the Write and Record a Whole Song In An Hour. Mary’s hoping to start the next challenge with this one! She got the idea from her time at Port City Studios, where she made a video using 10 of the guitars they have up there.

Today’s video isn’t the song itself; it’s a behind-the-scenes look at all the effort that went into putting the song together. A great look into what it takes to be a YouTube music star like Mary is.

Laura Cox Soloing On Sponge Bob Guitars

Laura Cox has posted a new video for the start of April – and she’s absolutely smoking this solo.

Wow.

The 26 Minute YouTube Advert

YouTube loves to play adverts, and most of the time they’re either totally irrelevant to me, or worse I can’t work out who the advertiser is or what they’re trying to sell.

So when YouTube said it was loading up a 26 minute advert, my first thought was “who on Earth would make an advert that long?”

The cast of the upcoming Bat Out Of Hell – The Musical recently did a promo event in front of an invited audience. The event was filmed, and turned into a YouTube advert.

I’d forgotten just how good some of these songs are. Take a listen. Maybe you’ve forgotten too.

Fast Car (Mary Spender Cover)

Mary Spender has recently been over in Norway visiting Frog Leap Studios, and while she was there, she recorded a cover of Tracy Chapman’s Fast Car.

Love it!

There’s been quite a few videos now where Mary’s singing into the Shure SM7B microphone. Each time, I’m impressed with the end results. If you’re looking for a vocal mic for your home studio, it’s worth adding to your list.

24K Magic

The latest metal cover is up from Frog Leap Studios – and its 24K Magic by Bruno Mars.

I declare the weekend officially here 🙂

PS: if you’re new to Frog Leap Studios, you’ll want to watch all the way to the end of the video …

Laura Cox Rocks Out

… with her Bacchus Mistress and its single Lollar P90.

If you’re new to Laura, she’s been posting videos of her playing for several years now. As time’s gone on, she’s developed a great American country rock vibe with her tone and phrasing. And she always lets her playing do the talking.

Please head over to YouTube and leave a like and a supportive comment if you enjoyed her playing. And please – don’t be a dick about the fact she’s a woman.
