This month, the last of my three new, non-Fender amp heads arrived.
Orange OR15 Amplifier Head
I’ve recently taken all the money that I’d saved for a Fender amp, and spent it with other brands instead. The OR15 is the last of those purchases.
I’m seeing this as an opportunity to explore something different to what I normally use. These days, Orange amps are mostly associated with down-tuned stoner rock and sludgy metal. But their amps can do so much more. For example, the OR15 is based on Orange amps from the 1970s, where Orange was one of the sounds of punk.
A proper First Impressions post is delayed while I recover from an accident, sorry.
I’ve really enjoyed the low-gain rhythm tones that I’ve managed to dial in on this amp. Add a little bit of classic Klon clean boost in front, and I could play this amp all day long. And I found it very easy to adjust for different guitars too.
The other really interesting thing (well, interesting to me) is that there’s something about the Origin OR15’s output frequencies that really challenged the way I’ve been dialling in my speaker IRs for both my Marshall Origin 20H and Marshall JTM Studio. That story will get its own blog post too.
